Full Day: Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai - Golden Triangle
  • 8:00: Our driver will pick you up from your Chiang Mai hotel and give you a brief overview of today's excursion.
  • Pass through rolling hills, descend into steep valleys, and see numerous towns and roadside markets on a fascinating journey from Chiang Mai to Mae Sai.
  • Stop along the road to Wat Rong Khun, often known as "the White Temple," a stunning temple complex that is one of the most spectacular in the entire country. Although it is not as old as others in Bangkok, its bright white front, mirrored glass ornaments, and beautifully carved patterns make it stand out.
  • Return to the road and proceed to a picturesque Akha and Yao Hill Tribe settlement. After saying 'hello' to the friendly inhabitants, continue on to Chiang Saen and the Golden Triangle, the meeting place of Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. Take in the breathtaking beauty along the Mekong River and use your camera to capture the panoramic vistas.
  • Continue to the Opium House, a museum with opium pipes, knives, and scrappers that portray the history of the opium trade that made this area famous in the not-too-distant past.
  • Before returning to Chiang Mai, pay a visit to the famed Mae Sai market. In this busy market area, Thais and Burmese frequently shop, negotiate, and even drink together. Pick up some gifts from the plethora of stalls here, which include handicrafts, fake fashion items, local produce, and antiques.
  • Take a break on the direct route back to Chiang Mai, arriving late afternoon.
